July 25, 2025 — Wednesday marked 32 years since John Singleton’s Poetic Justice first debuted in theaters. The original script and DVD included exclusive scenes absent from the global release, a rarity in today’s streaming-dominated era where such outtakes are null.

Inspired by these rediscovered scenes — and Spike Lee’s reimagined She’s Gotta Have It series — I reimagined Poetic Justice as a series of scenes. I shifted the focus to Lucky as the central protagonist instead of Justice. These scenes have further fueled a new short film written and directed by Sanicole Young with the production set to premiere at XL Film Festival 2025 in Chicago on August 15-16.
